大綱Abstract:
At a young age, children are eager to explore the world in which they live. But among the many people they encounter—from their parents to the broader community—how do children know whom to trust? Much research in developmental psychology has shown that children pay close attention to the characteristics of potential teachers, considering whether they were previously accurate, whether other people agree with their opinions, and whether they seem familiar to the child. Here, I will present my research highlighting some of the key characteristics children seem to prefer when judging potential teachers (and potential friends), both in and outside of the Taiwanese context. I will discuss how children’s preferences across cultures may differ or resemble each other, and what these preferences may mean when working with young children especially for teachers and counselors.
